RealSimGear Update 5, Jeppesen ChartView and Synthetic Vision in a G7 cockpit

Update 5 is live for the SR7x and SFx simulator packages. This release introduces two major new capabilities, Jeppesen ChartView* integration and a full Synthetic Vision System, alongside significant improvements to VNAV, Direct-To, map display, and more than 60 fixes across the simulated G3000 avionics suite.

Below is the complete summary. If you’d rather watch than read, the full walkthrough video is at the bottom of this post.

01Jeppesen ChartView*

Full support for Jeppesen ChartView electronic charts alongside the existing FAA FliteCharts. Worldwide coverage, geo-referenced approach plates, section views for plan/profile/minimums, night color palette, and automatic updates every two weeks through the RealSimGear launcher. Preferred-source logic provides automatic fallback between Jeppesen and FAA, so you always get the chart you expect for the procedure you’re flying.

For real-world pilots flying Jeppesen in the cockpit, this closes the last realism gap. The chart on the MFD in the sim is the chart on the iPad in the cockpit, same data source, same presentation, same flow.

*Jeppesen ChartView is a subscription service from RealSimGear, sold separately and required to display chart data in your simulator. RealSimGear offers it under two license types, Home (personal training use) and Commercial (flight schools and other business use), at annual subscription pricing.

Subscriptions are per simulator system. Renewals are annual and chart data updates automatically every two weeks through the RealSimGear launcher.

02Synthetic Vision System on the PFD

A full 3D synthetic vision display is now active on the PFD. The SVS display includes:

  • Real-world terrain rendered from a new global database with coverage from 65°N to 65°S latitude
  • Textured runway surfaces with runway markings and numbering
  • Flight path marker (velocity vector) showing the aircraft’s actual motion vector
  • Horizon heading display
  • Topographical relief map with water fills and surface textures

SVS settings are accessed through a new PFD Settings page, which also exposes wind indication and angle-of-attack display options.

Note: Pathways, detailed airport environments, terrain alerting, obstacles, and traffic display are not yet included in this SVS implementation. These features are on the roadmap for future updates.

03New global terrain database

The terrain database has been rebuilt worldwide. Coverage expands from approximately 50°N/S to 65°N/S, which adds terrain rendering for Europe, much of Canada, and southern polar regions that were previously blank. The new database is more efficient and supports the expanded map zoom range described below.

04Editable VNAV

VNAV climb, cruise, and descent schedules are now fully editable. You can configure:

  • Climb schedule, knots and Mach transition
  • Cruise schedule
  • Descent schedule with pilot-defined flight path angle (FPA)
  • Altitude speed limits (MSL)
  • Terminal area speed limits (AGL and distance from airport)

VNAV altitude constraints now display on the map at the active waypoint during flight plan execution. VNAV altitude constraint is also programmable directly from the Direct-To page.

05Direct-To improvements

The Direct-To page receives several quality-of-life improvements:

  • The waypoint field now pre-fills with the current next flight plan waypoint
  • Inbound course selection is functional, programming a specific inbound leg into the waypoint
  • VNAV altitude constraint can be programmed alongside a Direct-To
  • A flight plan tab lists all waypoints in the current flight plan for quick selection
  • The nearest-airports tab filters by airports, intersections, VORs, NDBs, and visual reference points
  • Improved PFD iconography for Direct-To, holds, and other leg types

06Vectors-to-Final, rewritten

Vectors-to-Final (VTF) transitions have been rewritten from the ground up. The previous implementation only activated the leg inbound to the final approach fix, which broke down on approaches with dog legs or non-standard transition geometry.

The new logic implements VTF as a Direct-To to the final approach fix with the final approach course specified. That single change resolves long-standing issues on older VOR approaches, RNAV approaches with non-standard legs, and mountainous-terrain approaches. Approach loading now pre-fills the first approach option with the vectors transition, so the standard ATC clearance “expect vectors” lines up with the box behavior.

Map and navigation display improvements

  • Maximum zoom range increased from 50 NM to 150 NM
  • Global airspace now loaded from navigation data (RSG or Jeppesen*), replacing the X-Plane default
  • Airspace coloring corrected, Class C and Danger areas now display in the correct purple/magenta rather than the previous incorrect pink
  • Airway labels are de-duplicated along segments rather than repeating on every segment
  • Map range rings and airport icon rendering corrected
  • “Blue banana” altitude-intercept arc added for climb and descent planning

Other notable additions

  • New PFD Settings page with wind indication, angle-of-attack display, and synthetic vision options
  • Heading sync improved and available in more lateral modes
  • Full-screen chart view on the MFD with automatic split-view restoration when incompatible pages are opened
  • Custom airspace file support

60+ bug fixes across the avionics suite

Update 5 ships more than 60 fixes across the simulated G3000. The full list is in the Update 5 release notes inside the RealSimGear launcher. Highlights:

  • ILS VTF correctly switches to green needles upon activation
  • Glide path (GP) properly inhibited on ILS/LOC approaches; improved RNAV GP display criteria
  • Course reversal popup no longer appears incorrectly when opening the approach page with a loaded approach
  • Checklist show/hide event handling corrected
  • PFD pane focus issues in PFD Full mode resolved
  • Window scaling and resizing issues resolved
  • W/B station weights now persist between sessions
  • Trend vector wobble below 30 knots groundspeed eliminated
  • Destination airport elevation color corrected
  • SR2x-specific and SF50-specific checklist and display fixes

How to install Update 5

Heads up: To receive Update 5, you must have an active RealSimGear Signature Support subscription. If yours has lapsed, reach out to reactivate before the rollout reaches your wave.

Update 5 is rolling out in waves of 20 customers per week so our support team can be present for every install. SR7x and SFx owners will receive a personalized scheduling email from RealSimGear support when it’s their turn, keep an eye on your inbox over the coming weeks. The update itself is delivered through the RealSimGear launcher.

The Jeppesen ChartView subscription is a separate purchase from Jeppesen and activates through the same launcher once your subscription is provisioned.

What’s next

Update 5 is a major milestone for the simulated G3000 avionics, but it’s not the end. Future updates will continue to expand SVS (pathways, airport environments, terrain alerting, traffic), add further zoom range to the map, and introduce pinch-to-zoom on the GTCs. If there’s a specific behavior you want to see in the box, let us know, customer feedback is what drove most of what shipped in Update 5.
