      Invaluable

I started training at zero hours in May 2022 on a Sling 2 (912is) and obtained my PPL in October 2022. The Sling2 is equipped with a G3X, G650 and G5 and GFC500. It became very clear after about 10 hours in the air that the cockpit was not going to be the best learning environment for me. Being 60 years old, working full time and new to flying made the cockpit way too much to handle. So I got X-Plane with the G1000 suite for starters (G3X not being available--would love RealSim Gear to come out with this!), loaded the Sling add-on into X-Plane and signed up for Pilot Edge and went to work. There is no way I would have passed my PPL check ride without this set up at home to supplement my in-air training. Absolutely NO WAY. I'm working on my IFR Rating now and added the G650/G750 combo as well as the G5 (because I have to learn how to fly with the G5 alone (partial panel) in my checkride). My sim set up is now much better than the SIM at the school. All they have is two G1000 AATD's. AND, they charge $170/hr with the CFI. And because of the use these SIMS get, buttons are always falling off or just simply inoperable. On top of that, the school doesn't update the navdata on the AATD so sometimes approaches are out of date or not even there. So I subscribed to Navigraph for X-plane and now have up-to-date navdata at home, which the G650/G750 updates seamlessly So between Navigraph, Pilot Edge, X-Plane and ESPECIALLY the RealSimGear components, it's about as realistic as it can possibly get for a SIM. I showed my CFI and he was blown away. I get a BETTER SIM training experience at home then at school--and to some degree even better than in the cockpit itself. RealSimGear pays for itself in about 5 hours of flying time. It has been (can continues to be) a game changer for me.
